According to Progressive Group Alliance, the Top Gun program, the fifth one this year, is designed to recognize, reward and motivate, the best sales professionals throughout the industry. Out of more than 4,000 distributor sales representatives in the group's network, only the top 1% is selected to attend Top Gun. Attendees, after meeting certain eligibility requirements, can be nominated by the owners of the company or their sales managers. The nominations are then evaluated and the best of the nominees are awarded attendance at Top Gun.
Combined, these sales professionals bring more than 528 years of industry experience, over $130 million in annualized group street sales volume, and service more than 1,830 accounts.
The Success Solutions team behind Top Gun creates an environment for advanced training by inviting top industry experts to talk about their products and services. Stephen Potter with IFDA provided an in-depth analysis of the issues the industry faces with sales and operations. Pam Welch and Fred Steele with Kraft Foodservice provided the latest news in salad trends.
The attendees were treated to two of the industries top consultants when Ed Zimmerman of Success Foods and Jim Cremins with FoodservicePro, Inc., spoke on value added selling and pursuing the customer. Many found the presentation given by Koch Foods Tim Fank, "Being a True Consultant in the Poultry Industry," so interesting they wished he'd had more time to speak, according to marketing group.
"I always enjoy coming back to speak at Top Gun. It's a pleasure to have the opportunity to work with the best in the business, to be a part of their success and education," said Tim Fank, senior director of sales, Koch Foods.
Top Gun Academy concluded with the annual awards ceremony where all of the First Year attendees received the coveted suede Top Gun bomber jacket. Guest Speaker, Ihor Dlaboha, editor of ID Access was on hand to present the ID DSR of the Month award to Top Gun attendee John Tubbs with Harker's Distribution, Inc., Le Mars, Iowa.
"Top Gun is truly a unique experience. Only the cream of the crop of the foodservice sales industry gets to attend. I'm so very proud and honored that I could award one of the attendees the DSR of the Month award. The attendees truly are the pinnacle of foodservice distribution sales," said Dlaboha.
Top Gun Academy has been recognized with Best of Show honors from IFDA and Best Practices Awards from ID magazine.
