Toppers Pizza is a fast-casual pizza chain whose revenue mostly comes from delivery. The chain bills itself as an eclectic, off-the-wall place where customers can find food not normally on its competitors’ menus, including 18 house pizzas. Popular with Millennials and often located near universities, much of Toppers Pizza’s revenue comes from late-night deliveries and takeout orders. Scott Gittrich founded Toppers Pizza in 1991 in Champaign, Illinois, and in 1993, Toppers launched its now-signature Topperstix cheesy bread sticks. Having doubled its store count over the last 18 months, Toppers’ growth is expected to come primarily via multi-unit franchisees. Toppers’ goal is 150 restaurants by the end of 2015 and 500 units by 2020.
