A recent New Mexico Department of Health survey found that 75 percent of respondents want restaurant patios to be smoke-free, and the department is urging restaurants to make that move, according to a report on KRQE News 13.
After surveying 3,000 New Mexicans and finding that the vast majority wanted completely smoke-free dining, the Department of Health launched a campaign in Albuquerque and Las Cruces called "Free the Patio." It's a push for restaurants to voluntarily make their patios smoke-free.
The state is giving out free banners, paying for newspaper ads and promoting restaurants that take part in "Free the Patio" on social media.
