Restaurant owners and their neighbors have the next four months to work out a compromise over smoke emissions.
The rules target barbecue pits within 100 feet of homes. Families who live near restaurants say the smoke seems to continue 24/7 and that it hurts their quality of life and health.
One of the proposals to be considered would require restaurants to install scrubbers on their smokers.
"That is going to completely destroy our cooking process,” La Barbacue owner LeAnn Mueller said. “It is going to change the way the smoke flows through the pits, and it will just ruin the taste of the barbecue."
