Costa also discussed innovative measures his company is taking towards going green, working with local growers and proactively helping with issues such as childhood obesity. One particularly innovative and successful program that Costa has introduced to its school accounts is called IMOVE, a child nutrition program that rewards kids for making healthful menu choices.
Asked if there are any breakthrough technologies on the horizon that will impact his business, Costa said he’s very excited about a new “space age” technology – one that’s all natural, organic and sustainable – that could enable local growers to produce products 52 weeks a year.
