Guy Fieri’s Times Square concept to close

Unit was consistently among the highest-grossing independents.

Guy’s American Kitchen & Bar, consistently one of the country’s top-grossing independent restaurants, announced this week that it will close on New Year’s Eve.

The Times Square restaurant from bombastic TV chef Guy Fieri ranked at No. 42 on Restaurant Business’ latest list of the top-grossing indies, with annual estimated sales of $17 million.

Eater NY first reported the impending closure, saying that Fieri’s spokesperson gave no reason for the shutter.

The three-floor, 16,000-square-foot concept garnered viral attention in 2012 when New York Times critic Pete Wells bestowed it zero stars in an over-the-top negative review.

Fieri’s 18 other concepts in the U.S. and around the world remain open.
