El Fenix has been around since 1918, when Mexican immigrant Miguel Martinez pioneered the Tex-Mex craze by serving an American twist on traditional Mexican cuisine at his one-man shop in Dallas. El Fenix now has 19 locations throughout Texas that serve up favorite items such as fajitas and chalupas alongside American classics such as chicken-fried steak.
