New York (April 10, 2013)—Ginsberg’s Foods, the largest family-owned full line food service distributor in the Hudson Valley region of New York, was awarded the 2012 Great West Safety Award from the New York State Motor Truck Association (NYSMTA) at their recent Truck Safety and Education Symposium.
John Brusie, Ginsberg’s Foods Vice President – Operations, credits their intense driver training program for aiding the company in being honored with this award. “Our fleet is comprised of 43 trucks/trailers and we logged almost 1.5 million miles in 2012. With those numbers, it’s crucial for us to have a safe fleet. New drivers are put through a rigorous two-week training utilizing the Smith System, the leader of collision avoidance training. Annually, our established drivers receive refresher training, in the classroom and on the road. Plus, our Driver Trainer rides along with them throughout the year. We take the time to follow these steps because safety, on the road and off, is a top priority for us,” Brusie said.
NYSMTA developed the safety awards to recognize fleets with the superior safe operation records in the state. Criteria for eligibility are number of miles driven within New York, number of reportable accidents and a company’s accident rate must be less than one-half the national average. Carriers are divided into two categories; long-haul/truckload or pick-up & delivery. Each category has three award classes; small, medium, or large. Ginsberg’s Foods received the Great West Safety Award for pick-up & delivery – medium class category.
