Gordon Food Service paid $31.5 million for Florida distribution center

WYOMING (January 14, 2010 - Grand Rapids Press)—Gordon Food Service's nearly $33 million investment into a million-square distribution plant in the Sunshine state was a "fair deal," says a Florida real estate broker.

The Wyoming-based food distributor paid $31.5 million, or about $31 per square foot, for Albertsons LLC's million-square-foot distribution center in Plant City, according to Tampa Bay Business Journal.

The purchase price was confirmed in Hillsborough County records, according to the Journal, a sister publication to the Press.

"It was a fair deal for both," said Rian Smith, a commercial real estate broker at Cushman & Wakefield of Florida Inc, told the Journal.

Plant City officials worked with the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corp. to woo the food distributor to town.

GFS's third distribution center in Florida, the company says the newest facility will support its "rapid growth" in that state.
