The Boston Globe reported that a spokesman for Dutch prosecutors, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, "We have received some papers from Ahold and we are looking into them." The spokesman is said to have indicated that criminal procedures could result against any managers found to be involved in "wrongdoing."
In the U.S., Ahold's U.S. Foodservice unit based in Columbia, MD, is currently the focus of investigations by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the U.S. Attorney's Office for questionable bookkeeping involving promo monies.
