ID NEWS: Foodservice sales agents to form stand-along organization

WASHINGTON, DC - The Grocery Manufacturers of America (GMA) Foodservice Agency Committee here has decided unanimously to form a new, self-standing association dedicated to foodservice, separate from GMA.

The new Washington- based association, created as a legal entity on November 3, is called the Foodservice Sales & Marketing Association (FSMA). Current foodservice sales agents affiliated with GMA can join FSMA, effective January 1.

The new organization will be officially unveiled at GMA's annual Top to Top meeting, to be held in Phoenix, February 18-20. The GMA Foodservice Agency Committee notes it wishes to thank GMA for its agreement to support the building process.

FSMA is an offshoot of what originally was the Association of Sales & Marketing Agents (ASMC), which merged with GMA in 2001. The aim was to build a foodservice program with the retail-oriented manufacturer organization. ASMC in turn was a new identity taken in 1998 by the International Foodservice Brokers Association formed as part of the National Food Brokers Association in 1994.
