ID NEWS: Heinz acquires Truesoups foodservice line

H.J. Heinz Co., Pittsburgh, has acquired Truesoups LLC, Seattle, a manufacturer of frozen, premium, ready-to-heat-and-serve soups for casual dining restaurants and the foodservice distributor channel. Terms of the acquisition have not been released.

"Adding Truesoups to our portfolio helps Heinz further solidify its leadership position in the premium soup category and adds yet another growth vehicle to our strong foodservice portfolio," comments William R. Johnson, Heinz chairman, president and ceo. "Truesoups specializes in making fresh-ingredient soups for well known and rapidly growing fast-casual dining chains. Truesoups strengthens Heinz's position in this important U.S. foodservice segment which is growing at a rate of 4-5% each year."

Heinz's Foodservice Div., which represents approximately 40% of Heinz North America's sales, markets branded and customized products to commercial and noncommercial operators and distributors.

"Heinz Foodservice is thrilled to add Truesoups to our portfolio, because it's a perfect complement to our Chef Francisco, Quality Chef and Todds businesses," notes Jeffrey Berger, president of Heinz Foodservice.
