ID NEWS: Industry coalition debuts Website dedicated to country-of-origin labeling issues

The Food Industry Trade Coalition (FITC), Washington, a partnership of food and agriculture organizations concerned about mandatory country-of-origin labeling for meat, produce, seafood and peanuts, has unveiled a new Website: www.countryoforiginlabel.org.

The site consolidates information about how the law will impact various sectors and includes implementation information. Visitors can view cost estimates, read statements by trading partners, find audit firms to assist with implementation, see media reports about the law and view sample labels.

"We hope this resource will be useful to the meat, produce, peanut and seafood industries, who are working diligently to comply with the law's massive requirements," comments Patrick J. Boyle, president, American Meat Institute (AMI), Washington, and an FITC member.

The coalition believes the mandatory law should be repealed in favor of a voluntary program and is committed to assisting affected companies with compliance.
