ID NEWS: Vistar in acquisition mode

Vistar Corp., Denver, a leading distributor to pizza/Italian and other foodservice operators and the food vend trade, has announced an acquisition: Its Vistar/VSA of Hartford, Inc., subsidiary has acquired assets of Lisa, Inc., East Haven, CT, an $18-million Italian specialty and pizza distributor to the New England market.

"We're excited to build upon our existing capability in the Northeast," comments, George Holm, president and ceo of Vistar, the former Multifoods Distribution Group. "The specialty orientation of Lisa Foods and its established Lisa brand in the marketplace will give us unmatched product mix in the pizza and Italian segments."

At the same time, Vistar, which rang up $2.26 billion in foodservice sales last year, has announced an asset purchase agreement to acquire Vend Products, Portland, OR, and Livermore, CA. This is a $62-million vend candy, snack and office supply specialist.
