Keeping a franchise system focused on the same priorities can be a challenge, especially when the chain is expanding at a dizzying clip, says Dickey’s Barbecue Pit President and CEO Roland Dickey Jr. One way the chain tries to foster unity is with a weekly webinar hosted by a different staff member each time. The moderator picks the topic, and the whole system is expected to participate. Passionate discussion is not discouraged. “Every business has its science, but there’s still a lot of art to barbecue,” says Dickey.
