On the Border names new CEO

The chain has tapped former The Habit executive Matt Hood for the top post.

On the Border Mexican Grill & Cantina has named industry veteran Matt Hood as its president and CEO.

Hood most recently served as chief marketing officer for growing fast casual The Habit Burger Grill. He also held the top marketing spot at BJ’s Restaurants, and served as senior vice president of marketing and brand development for Carino’s Italian Grill.

“Matt Hood is a proven performer when it comes to moving brands forward,” said Michael A. Klump, founder and president of On the Border parent company Argonne Capital Group. “We have been laying the groundwork to achieve great things, and we are excited to add his strategic and disciplined leadership to capitalize on the opportunities before us.”

The Habit announced Hood’s resignation last month, saying he left to pursue another opportunity.

On the Border, a Mexican casual-dining brand, has 158 units in 32 states, Puerto Rico and Asia.
