McDonald’s said to be planning chicken upgrade

McDonald’s is about to swap out the grilled chicken used in several of its menu items for a higher quality version that might be touted as “artisan,” according to restaurant analyst Mark Kalinowski.

Kalinowski, who tracks restaurant companies for Janney Capital Markets, says he learned of the imminent change from “industry sources” he did not name.

The better chicken might be used for a multitude of products, including sandwiches, salads and wraps, Kalinowski said.

The changeover could come within the next four weeks, he reported.

McDonald’s recently resurrected an upgraded chicken nugget, Chicken Selects, for what is presumed to be a limited-time promotion.
