TEMPLE, TX (Oct. 12, 2009)—McLane Grocery, a division of McLane Company Inc., has announced that its New Jersey division has received the Golden Pallet Award for foodservice distribution in the convenience-store wholesaler category. The annual awards, sponsored by Food Logistics magazine, were established to recognize excellence in warehousing.
McLane's New Jersey location is dedicated to a single customer, the Wawa c-store chain. McLane and Wawa teamed up in 2004 and together have built reliable and efficient operations processes, with reportedly near-perfect delivery and order fulfillment rates. The state-of-the-art 220,000-square-foot facility is located in Carneys Point at the southern end of New Jersey, strategically located within easy reach of the majority of Wawa`s stores and suppliers. The McLane center handles a broad line of products for Wawa, ranging from motor oil and health and beauty aids to fresh fruit cups, produce, luncheon meats and a host of frozen products.
"Our facility here in New Jersey is unique, and we are proud of the relationship we've built with Wawa over the years," said Jim Tidmore, president of McLane New Jersey. "McLane and Wawa have many values in common. We both believe in taking care of our employees and creating a positive environment to work in. This award is a testament to the hard work we've done together and the efficiency improvements we've been able to accomplish as partners."
Wawa offers a large fresh food selection, including its award-winning Freshly Brewed Coffee (over 195 million cups sold each year). The company operates more than 560 stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.
