WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 22, 2011 – IFDAonline.org)—Four new groups are forming as part of the Foodservice GS1 US Standards Initiative and volunteers from among current initiative members are invited to join. Requests to join must be received by Monday, September 26, 2011 and membership is open only to participating members of the GS1 Initiative.
The new working groups are:
·GLN Task Group - will explore the use of Global Location Numbers (GLNs) in solving issues related to location information in the foodservice industry, including a mechanism to share information related to a GLN.
·GTIN Allocation Task Group - will make recommendations for when a new Global Trade Item Number (GTIN®) should be assigned to foodservice products. Through this Task Group’s work, they will identify what changes in a product’s attributes drive the need for a new GTIN to be assigned.
·Product Images Task Group - will provide guidance as to how foodservice products can be represented as digital images and transmitted through the GDSN.
·User Workgroup - will provide a forum to accelerate the voluntary adoption and implementation of Global Location Numbers (GLNs), Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs) and the Global Data Synchronization Network™ (GDSN®). The User Workgroup is being initiated for Initiative members to network, to address community implementation issues, and to share their experiences regarding the implementation of GS1 standards for foodservice.
