Taking a cue from other major chains, Applebee’s and IHOP are removing soda as a default beverage option from their kids menus, WTSP reports.
While soft drinks won’t be listed on those menus, customers will be able to request one as part of a child’s meal.
"We believe in having a broad variety of selections so our guests have a choice that best meets their needs,” a spokesperson for the brands’ parent company, DineEquity, told WTSP. “While soft drinks are still available by request, we believe this is a small step in assisting parents when dining out, as parents are in the best position to determine the appropriate food and beverage choices for their children.”
Wendy’s, Burger King and Dairy Queen are among the other large chains that have made recent moves to remove sodas from their kids’ menus.
