Burger King reaches into casual dining for latest deal

Burger King is borrowing one of casual dining’s classic promotions for a new limited-time offer: Two meals priced slightly above what one would normally cost.

Like the two-for-$20 deals that casual dining used almost to a brand during the Great Recession, Burger King’s new lure is aimed at pairs of consumers. Patrons can buy two Whoppers, two small orders of fries and two small beverages for $10 total.

The offer is tagged as the 2 for $10 Whopper Meal, a nod to the Pick 2 for $5 deal offered by McDonald’s and the 4 for $4 bundled bargain currently available from Wendy’s. Burger King has touted a 5 for $4 meal.

“This unbeatable offer gives friends and family a new reason to come in this summer,” Alex Macedo, president of Burger King’s North American operations, said in a statement.

He did not reveal how long the offer would run.
