Kahala Brands acquires Maui Wowi

Kahala Brands said it has acquired smoothie-and-coffee chain Maui Wowi, broadening the franchisor’s footprint in the “healthy treats” segment.

Kahala Brands—which acquired the Tasti D-Lite and Planet Smoothie brands earlier this year—operates the Surf City Squeeze and NrGize Lifestyle Cafe smoothie chains, among others.

"Maui Wowi, with 400 mobile carts and 29 standalone retail units operated by 200 franchisees, is a perfect addition to our family of smoothie brands and our portfolio of concepts as whole,” Michael Serruya, CEO of Kahala Brands, said in a statement. “This purchase further expands our smoothie footprint to more than 800 locations and allows us to be a part of such a fun concept and fantastic food and flavor profile, where we can bring the great tastes of Hawaii to the mainland and around the world.”

Kahala Brands will move Maui Wowi’s headquarters from Denver, Colo., to its Scottsdale, Ariz., home office.
