My Fit Foods calls it quits

My Fit Foods, a restaurant-retail hybrid featuring healthful meals that customers could buy on what amounted to a meal plan, has called it quits. The chain said on its website that all stores had been shuttered.

All employees were let go on Sunday, according to the ABC affiliate in Austin, Texas, the chain’s home city.

The chain had been struggling for some time, closing stores here and there. The number of units that were still in operation at the time of the chainwide shutdown were estimated by some reports at 40, by others at 80.

No reason was given by the 10-year-old company for pulling the plug.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of all our stores,” the chain said in a statement posted on its website. “We know that you have depended upon us to support your healthy habits, and we are deeply sorry for any inconvenience our closure may have cost you.”

Customers could sign up for a “challenge,” a multi-day weight-loss drive. The store would sell patrons the meals intended to get them to their goal.
