Philly restaurants get walloped by papal visit

Though Philadelphia restaurateurs prepared for what they thought would be a boon to business, many concepts instead suffered empty tables and slow sales during the pope’s visit last week, Philly.com reports.

Restaurants across all price points, especially those in the papal security zone, struggled as a result of blocked access roads and other factors. “It’s been a disaster for business,” Charlotte Calmels, co-owner of French bistro Le Cheri, told Philly.com. “We should get a pope tax break.”

Though many restaurants offered papal-themed promotions, as Restaurant Businessearlier reported, those may not have been enough to draw potential patrons.
