Pizza Ranch has been connected to an E.coli outbreak that sickened nine customers in seven states, the Des Moines Register reports.
The outbreak—which occured between December and February—was tied to a dry baking mix used in the chain’s desserts. However, bacteria was not found when samples of the mix were later tested, according to the Des Moines Register.
Pizza Ranch says it has adopted precautionary cleaning procedures at all of its locations, and no units were closed as a result of the outbreak.
Four people who had not reported eating at Pizza Ranch were also sickened by the same E.coli strain. The 13 illnesses took place in Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, North Carolina, Nebraska, South Dakota, New Jersey, Wisconsin and Minnesota.
Food-borne illnesses have been top of mind for chain customers of late, due in part to the high-profile outbreaks tied to Chipotle and Buffalo Wild Wings.
