Postmates adds rapid meal-delivery service

Postmates has launched a speed-driven food-courier arm called Postmates Pop, which promises to deliver meals to customers in 15 minutes or less, according to Eater.

Deliveries in the app-based service’s testing ground of San Francisco have averaged fewer than 7 minutes, Eater says. To accommodate this quick service, drivers keep a supply of prepared restaurant meals on hand, eliminating the time needed to pick up individual orders as they filter in.

In addition, the service will collaborate with local restaurants, such as A16 and Molinari in San Francisco, to offer Pop-exclusive dishes, Postmates’ blog confirms.

With the field of food-courier competition growing ever more crowded, speed and exclusivity have emerged as key ways for third-party services to differentiate themselves. Postmates’ new service is reminiscent of UberEATS, which promises customers curbside delivery in fewer than 10 minutes. By comparison, Amazon’s new meal-delivery service, which began testing in Seattle last month, delivers food orders in under an hour.
