Potbelly’s comp sales up 4.9%

Comp sales at Potbelly Corp. rose 4.9 percent in the second quarter ended June 28, the company reported Tuesday.

Net income at the sandwich company increased 22 percent compared to the same period last year, to $2.5 million, while revenues rose 14.7 percent, to $95.9 million.

"We've achieved three consecutive quarters of solid sales growth and strong profitability,” said Aylwin Lewis, CEO of Potbelly Corp. "The Potbelly teams continue doing great work and we are pleased with the first half of the year. We remain confident in the fundamentals of our business and our ability to achieve our previously disclosed guidance for the full year."

The Chicago-based company plans to open 48 to 55 new locations by the end of the fiscal year—40 to 45 of which would be company operated—and anticipates “low single-digit” comp-sales growth.
