Shake Shack debuts a chicken sandwich

Shake Shack has added a chicken sandwich to its menu at its three Brooklyn locations for a limited time, following much speculation that the chain would begin serving the protein in a new menu item or spin off its brand with a chicken-focused restaurant.

The ChickenShack, which features crispy chicken, lettuce, tomato, pickles and buttermilk-herb mayo, sells for $6.29. It’s the first chicken sandwich to be offered by the burger chain, which currently offers a chicken dog, a version of a hot dog made with chicken, apple and sage sausage.

By adding fried chicken to its lineup, Shake Shack positions itself to compete with fried-chicken juggernaut Chick-fil-A, which was recently rated consumers’ favorite quick-service restaurant, and Yum! Brands' expanding chicken concept Super Chix.
