Consumers who can’t get into San Francisco’s famed Slanted Door will soon be able to cook its food themselves through a new venture by the Bay Area’s nonrestaurant restaurant, Munchery.
Slanted Door, Charles Phan’s Vietnamese hotspot, is the first restaurant to partner with Munchery on a new venture, a meal-kit delivery service.
Munchery is currently a delivery service that brings ready-to-eat meals to consumers from its own kitchen. Customers can only have the food delivered since the company has no dining room or takeout windows.
Now the company is branching into the turf of meal-kit specialists like Blue Apron and Plated, which provide amateur cooks with prepped ingredients they can combine and heat into a semi-home-cooked dinner.
Munchery told Fortune that it intends to deliver ready-to-cook ingredients and step-by-step cooking instructions from big-name Bay Area restaurants to consumers’ homes. The first place it approached was Slanted Door, which said yes.
Terms of the deal with Phan were not disclosed.
