Starbucks, Yum!, Carrabba’s top Forbes’ list of best restaurant employers

The restaurant industry is hugely important to the American economy, accounting for about 2 percent of the nation’s GDP ($325 billion) back in 2013. In January 2015, just under 11 million employees worked in restaurants across the United States. How highly does this massive workforce rate the sector’s employers?

In order to find out, Forbes and Statista asked over 20,000 American workers at large U.S. companies, nonprofit institutions, government agencies, and U.S. divisions of multinationals this question: how likely would they be to recommend their employer to someone else on a scale of 0-10? Their answers helped formulate America’s Best Employers 2015.

Coffee powerhouse Starbucks SBUX -1.15% came out on top, scoring 8.75 out of 10. The chain offers its employees numerous benefits, especially those working part-time. These include health coverage, store discounts, chances to study and career sabbaticals. Yum! Brands came jointly second with Carrabba's Italian Grill , scoring 8.61 while Hard Rock International had the third-highest score – 8.41.
