Shake Shack brings seafood on board

Shake Shack continues to branch out from its signature burgers with the debut of a new LTO: The Surf N’ Shack.

Known for a streamlined menu that offers few frills, the burger concept has recently been expanding its offerings, last month introducing The Roadside Burger LTO as well as its first-ever chicken sandwich, The ChickenShack.

The chain has seen great success with recent LTOs, Shake Shack CEO Randy Garutti said on an earnings call earlier this month, including such “overwhelming” guest demand for The ChickenShack that the three locations offering the menu item ran out of supply in just two days.

The Surf N’ Shack tops a hamburger patty with lobster, lettuce, tomato and the chain’s signature ShackSauce. It’s currently available at the chain’s Boston and Connecticut locations, where it sells to customers for $8.99.

The new LTO indicates that lobster is gaining traction in the QSR market, at least on a regional basis. Its debut comes on the heels of McDonald’s New England rollout of a lobster roll earlier this summer.
