Sub salad for fries? No problem at Tucson McDonald’s

Don’t you just love being first in line.

Tucson and Southern Arizona are the tasting ground for McDonald’s new initiative to customize meals.

Fifty-four McDonald’s restaurants in Tucson and the region can now offer customers different sides options to enhance their meals. Here’s how it works: Instead of ordering numbered Extra Value Meals that automatically come with an entrée, fries and drink, you can now choose from one of up to eight side options including sliced apples, side salad, four-piece Chicken McNuggets or a sundae. Customers can pick any classic entrée and two sides. Choosing a premium entrée or third side option costs an extra buck.

A McDonald’s spokeswoman said the initiative is expected to be introduced in McDonald’s locations nationwide at some point.

McDonald's has locations throughout the greater Tucson area including 5445 E. Speedway, 2130 W. River Road, 10795 N. Oracle Road in Oro Valley and 3800 W. Lindavista Blvd. in Marana.
