Sysco Purchasing Plympton Industrial Park

BOSTON (December 16, 2010)—Sysco Boston LLC has signed a purchase and sales agreement to buy 121.5 acres in Plympton, where it plans to  relocate its Norton facility.

But all is not lost for Middleboro, Sysco spokesperson Mark Palmer said. “We are still actively pursuing and working the site in Middleboro.”

Palmer said company officials learned their lesson after Lakeville residents voted down a zoning change and are considering the Middleboro site their “backup”.

Palmer said Sysco wants to get the facility built as soon as possible and will switch over to the Middleboro site if there are hold-ups on the Plympton site.

The Plympton site under agreement is owned by SN Commercial and valued at nearly $4.1 million. Selectman Joseph A. Freitas said property is already permitted as an industrial park and ready to go, noting Sysco would be responsible for handling it’s own water and sewer needs.

Palmer did not disclose the selling price, but said Sysco plans to invest $110 million in a 650,000-square-foot distribution center.
