U.S. Foodservice Earmarks $16 Million for North Carolina Expansion

"The added capacity will allow us to not only service our existing 4,000 accounts but to continue our steady growth in the region," said Smokey Norris, president of U.S. Foodservice Raleigh, in a prepared statement.

The company moved into the facility in 1996, where it currently employs 600 workers and could add more jobs as part of the expansion. During the next nine months, U.S. Foodservice, which recorded a 77% increase in operating income, plans to add 98,000 sq.ft. to the center, for a total of 373,000 sq.ft.

Local officials said the expansion comes as this area's population continues to swell, boosting business at restaurants as well as school and university enrollment.
