Being a third-party delivery person can be a thankless gig, especially in New York City, where most couriers use bikes. That means they have few opportunities to charge their phones, take shelter or even use the bathroom while working. Chick-fil-A sought to offer some respite last year with The Brake Room, a hangout on Manhattan’s Upper East Side where delivery people could warm up, recharge, use the bathroom and even store their bikes. The setup had the added benefit of encouraging couriers to congregate just a four-minute bike ride from the nearest Chick-fil-A. It was only open for a few months last year, but Grubhub and the Big Apple itself have been investing in similar hubs for couriers.
