After selling the fast-casual hot chicken concept last year, Dave's investors are applying the same playbook to Mike's Red Tacos, a two-unit San Diego concept they feel has national potential.

The fast-casual chain is looking to improve its perception of value and drive traffic. One idea to be tested later this year will be a daypart offering maybe a couple of tacos and a drink for under $10.

Customers will have a direct line to Tom Curtis, who will spend hours every day taking phone calls and responding to texts, as the fast-food chain looks to elevate the customer experience.

The drive-thru beverage chain is always looking for conversion opportunities as it pushes its rapid expansion strategy. The company wants 2,029 restaurants by 2029.

One out of every five small restaurants uses Toast, and now the company is targeting fast-food chains with the launch of its first drive-thru product this year.

The fast-food chain’s U.S. same-store sales fell 11.3%, the worst sales result in at least 20 years, as the brand took a step back in 2025. The company is closing restaurants and easing breakfast hours at some locations.
