Mobile food trucks have attained a permanent place in the culinary landscape. The August 2010 American Express MarketBriefing reports that more and more consumers are hitting the streets to buy meals on wheels from these chef-driven vehicles. Once solely associated with urban life, mobile food trucks are even starting to park in the suburbs to sell their specialty foods. With this explosion in growth, mobile food trucks are poised to become even bigger competitors within the restaurant scene. Here are more findings from the report:
- In 2009, one out of eight consumers (13%) reported going to a mobile food truck in the preceding six months
- In 2010, more than one in four consumers (26%) reported visiting a food truck in the last six months
- Mobile food trucks owned by restaurants are a worthwhile complement and business builder to the brick and mortar location
