Daily Provisions, a super-casual all-day café operated by Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group, opened its sixth location in upper Manhattan on Aug. 5.

To commemorate the occasion, former Gramercy Tavern Pastry Chef Claudia Fleming, now executive culinary director of Daily Provisions, teamed up with the concept’s Executive Pastry Chef Christine Lisa, to develop an exclusive limited-time Black & White Cruller inspired by NYC’s iconic black-and-white cookies.

The two chefs partnered with vanilla brand Heilala to create the vanilla custard filling for the cruller. It is then dipped in half vanilla glaze and half dark chocolate glaze.

Crullers

The Black & White Crullers are inspired by NYC's classic black-and-white cookies.

“Guests can expect the same exceptional cuisine and service found across all of the Daily Provisions locations,” Fleming said in a statement. “We’re eager to bring our tried-and-true classics, plus our delicious new limited-edition cruller, to the Upper East Side community to enjoy no matter the time of day.”

Half the proceeds from sales of the Black & White Cruller will be donated to Citymeals on Wheels, a nonprofit whose volunteers provide a continuous lifeline of meals and companionship to nearly 22,000 homebound older New Yorkers.

Daily Provisions is designed to offer both a quick bite and more leisurely meals. To start the day, there’s coffee, signature crullers, avocado toasts and B.E.C’s (bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches.) Throughout the afternoon and evening, made-to-order sandwiches, salads and entrees are available alongside classic sides like crispy Brussels sprouts and crispy potatoes. Diners can choose from a wide range of dinner options, including a half or whole roast chicken to-go, seared salmon or a family-style meal that serves up to four.
