SPB Hospitality, the parent of Krystal, Logan’s Roadhouse and other restaurant chains, has acquired a pair of concepts created by celebrity chef Jose Garces.

The three-unit Amada Tapas y Vino and single-unit Village Whiskey will join SPB’s portfolio of more than a dozen restaurant brands.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Amada was Garces’ first restaurant, founded in 2005. It is known for authentic Spanish tapas and a vibrant atmosphere. It has locations in Philadelphia; Radnor, Pennsylvania; and Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Village Whiskey opened in 2009 in Philadelphia and is known for its large whiskey selection and burgers.

Both were part of Garces Restaurant Group’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in 2018. They were then sold to New Orleans-based Ballard Brands along with other Garces concepts.

SPB plans to grow both restaurants and is targeting medium to large metro areas across the U.S., it said in a press release.

Also as part of the deal, it will work with Garces to develop new concepts that will aim to combine innovation and mass appeal.

“We are honored to partner with Chef and his team to amplify their success, utilizing our shared services model and development expertise to dramatically expand the footprint of these brands, and the new concepts we will be developing together, across the country.” SPB CEO Josh Kern said in a statement.

Houston-based SPB is a subsidiary of giant investment firm Fortress Restaurant Group. Aside from the quick-service Krystal, its portfolio features primarily steakhouse and brewpub concepts, including Logan's, Old Chicago Pizza and Taproom, J. Alexander’s, Stoney River  Steakhouse and Grill, Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery, Gordon Biersch Brewery and Restaurant and ChopHouse and Brewery.

New York-based Fortress is also in line to acquire Red Lobster out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy. It’s not yet clear whether the chain could be folded into SPB.
