Round Table Pizza changes hands

The franchisor of Marble Slab Creamery and Hot Dog on a Stick has acquired the venerable Round Table Pizza restaurant chain and its affiliated concepts.

Terms were not disclosed, though the buyer, Global Franchise Group, noted that the deal closed today.

The 50-year-old Round Table operation currently owns or franchises 440 units. They include Round Table Pizza Clubhouses, an updated version of the company’s namesake pizzerias, featuring arcade games and big-screen TVs, and another younger riff called Round Table Pizza Wings Brew, a concept not unlike Buffalo Wild Wings.

Round Table also has 10 locations outside of the United States.

With the deal, GFG operates or holds the franchise rights to 1,500 restaurants worldwide. Those brands include Great American Cookie Co., Pretzelmaker and MaggieMoo’s.

Round Table, one of the industry’s oldest chains, is the latest longstanding brand to change hands in recent weeks. Ponderosa and Bonanza were recently sold to FAT Brands, the parent of Fatburger; Beef ‘o’ Brady’s was sold to the New York investment firm CapitalSpring Partners; and Joe’s Crab Shack was added to Tilman Fertitta’s empire.
