Tatte Bakery's founder Tzurit Or began by baking pastries out of her own kitchen and selling them at a Boston farmers market 17 years ago. That tiny homegrown business evolved into the first cafe, which focused on the pastries and desserts that made Or famous: croissants, scones, muffins, cakes, cookies and specialties like Jerusalem bagels and kouign-amann, accompanied by coffee drinks. The 44 cafes, concentrated around Boston and Washington, D.C., now serve sandwiches, salads, soups, tartines, quiche and breakfast dishes in an expanded menu. Former Panera Bread CEO Ron Shaich is an investor in Tatte Bakery through his Act III portfolio companies.
