IFDA Urges FMCSA To Retain Current Hours of Service Rule

(March 3, 2011)—IFDA filed comments this week on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's (FMCSA) proposed rule on hours of service and urged the agency to retain the rules in their current form.

The proposal would make a number of changes to the current regulations that will have a significant impact on distributors. Distributors have made their business decisions over the last six years based on the current rules and the changes outlined in the proposal would require companies to add routes, drivers, and equipment.

The rulemaking is the result of a settlement reached in a lawsuit brought by safety group Public Citizen and the Teamsters. According to the settlement the agency must publish a final rule by July 26.

The comments are available here or contact the IFDA government relations department for more information.
