John Allegretto, the former head of supply-chain operations for the BJ’s casual-dining chain, has been named CEO of the 22-unit Rock Wood Fired Kitchen pizza chain.

The 25-year industry veteran is a rare example of a supply-chain specialist who has climbed to the corner office. He will also serve Rock Wood as president.

At BJ’s, Allegretto had set up the network of brewers and distributors who supplied the chain, which is known in part for its selection of beers. He held the title of SVP as well as chief supply chain officer before leaving BJ’s.

Allegretto had served as a vice president of the Pickup Stix Asian chain while it was part of Carlson Restaurants, which at the time was also the parent company of TGI Fridays. He also logged time as a director in The Walt Disney Co.’s Corporate Strategic Sourcing Group.

"John came to us with an impressive background, having worked at many well-respected international companies,” said Don Bellis, a co-founder and partner in Rock Wood. “He’ll provide daily focus and direction as we continue to expand our national footprint.”

The chain had been the day-to-day charge of Bellis and co-founder Jay Gigandet. Both will remain on the board of the company.

Rock Wood, which started in 1995 in Tacoma, Wash., is described by its management as a gourmet pizza restaurant with a rock ‘n’ roll vibe.
