Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurants on Thursday named former Potbelly executive Michael Coyne the company’s new chief financial officer.

Coyne had been Potbelly’s CFO, but had also spent time as its interim CEO before Alan Johnson was named to the permanent post last year.

Coyne has more than 30 years of leadership experience at numerous companies, including CNA Financial Corp., Sears Holdings and others.

“His depth of experience in both large public companies and the restaurant space will contribute greatly to our leadership team as we grow our brand,” Cooper’s Hawk Founder and CEO Tim McEnery said in a statement.

He joins one of the hotter growth chains in the U.S. in Cooper’s Hawk, a hybrid winery and upscale restaurant that boasts a wine club membership of more than 300,000 people.

Coyne said in a statement that he is “looking forward to adding my experience in public company operating and finance roles, investment community relationships and strategic leadership to the talented Cooper’s Hawk team.”

Potbelly, meanwhile, said that Coyne will remain with that company until Sept. 21, and that it has begun a process to search for his replacement. Johnson said last week that Coyne “has been extremely helpful to me during my transition to leading Potbelly.” He said Coyne would help with the transition to a new CFO.
