El Pollo Loco has named industry veteran Hector Munoz its chief marketing officer.

Munoz previously served as executive vice president and global CMO for Church’s Chicken as well as CMO for Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen. He has also held executive roles with Burger King, Long John Silver’s and Bruegger’s Bagels.

He will be responsible for overseeing all marketing and brand strategy for El Pollo Loco, including new product development, advertising, and digital and social media engagement.

“As we continue to strengthen our leadership team, Hector’s significant industry experience and knowledge, paired with his strong leadership skills, will be instrumental as we elevate our marketing to grow the love our customers have for the El Pollo Loco brand,” Bernard Acoca, president and CEO, said in a statement.

Munoz replaces former CMO Ed Valle, who left the chain in June.

The 480-unit fire-grilled chicken chain recently added the role of chief people officer as it moves to build up its senior leadership team. Acoca, a former Starbucks executive, became the quick-service chain’s head in March.
