Papa John’s International on Wednesday named Marvin Boakye the company’s first chief people officer.

Boakye, a longtime human resources executive, will report to CEO Steve Ritchie and join the company’s executive leadership team.

Boakye joins the Louisville, Ky.-based company from Andeavor, a petroleum company based in San Antonio that was recently acquired by Marathon Petroleum. Before that, he was chief human resources officer for telecommunications company MTS Allstream.

“Boakye’s expertise will help us to continue to push Papa John’s forward in our transformation to become a better place to work for our 120,000 corporate and franchise team members,” Ritchie said in a statement.

Boakye will replace Bob Smith, who had been Papa John’s senior vice president of people operations until his retirement last August.

Papa John’s operates more than 5,000 locations worldwide, including more than 3,000 in the U.S.
