Red Robin, White Castle, Church’s and more chains make leadership shifts

Red Robin promoted Jesse Griffith to COO. Griffith joined the company in 2023 as SVP of operations. He previously was VP of operations at Torchy’s Tacos and has held operations roles at California Pizza Kitchen, Texas Roadhouse and other chains.

CFO Todd Wilson is leaving Red Robin Gourmet Burgers and going to BJ’s Restaurants. Wilson spent three years as CFO of Red Robin and was previously CFO of Hopdoddy Burger Bar and VP of finance for Jamba Juice. At BJ’s, he replaces Thomas Houdek, who stepped down in June. The move will be effective Dec. 13. In the meantime, Red Robin is on the lookout for a replacement.

White Castle has promoted Chris Shaffery to the position of senior vice president of operations. Shaffery began his career with the brand 30-plus years ago, working behind the counter at a White Castle in Manahawkin, New Jersey. In his new role, he’ll oversee restaurant operations and guide growth.

Church’s Texas Chicken has named Bobby Morena to the role of chief development officer. He will lead all aspects of the chicken chain’s domestic development strategy, including franchise sales, real estate, design and construction. Morena previously worked with development at Jimmy John’s and was most recently chief development officer at Go To Foods.

Dan Doulen has joined Golden Corral as senior director of franchise business development. Doulen has over 30 years experience in the industry, recently leading development for Wings & Rings and helping the chain launch its new fast casual, Noble Chicken.

Erik Jensen has been named VP of marketing for Brix Holdings, the parent of Friendly’s and other restaurant chains. He previously spent more than 13 years in various marketing roles at Denny’s before a brief stop at Keurig Dr Pepper.
