Sweetgreen has hired Chris Carr, who was most recently a Starbucks executive, as its chief operations officer, the fast-casual chain announced Wednesday.
Carr was executive vice president and chief procurement officer for Starbucks, tasked with shaping the chain’s multibillion-dollar global supplier base spend and working on innovations based around consumer insights. Before Starbucks, he worked for ExxonMobil.
"Chris’ values and leadership skills will make for an exceptional addition to the Sweetgreen team," said Jonathan Neman, co-founder and CEO of Sweetgreen, in a statement. “With his experience in delivering sustainable growth in retail and supply chain, we’re looking forward to Chris furthering his impact on the future of real food and amplifying our growth ahead.”
Los Angeles-based Sweetgreen is known as a prolific fundraiser in the industry and was recently valued at $1.6 billion. The salad chain announced last month that it had returned its $10 million Paycheck Protection Program check.
