Glenn Lunde is back as CEO of Togo’s Sandwiches.

The Campbell, California-based sandwich chain on Tuesday “reaffirmed” Lunde as CEO. He is returning to the brand, after departing in October 2024 to serve as CEO of Yoshinoya America.

At the time, Togo’s chief financial officer Matt Dowling had stepped up to the CEO suite, taking on the dual role of CEO and CFO. The company said Dowling has retired. He has been replaced as CFO by Farhan Jalil.

But Lunde, who was CEO of Togo’s for seven years before he left last year, has now returned to continue the work he started, the company said.

“The board of directors has full confidence in Glenn’s leadership as we continue to execute our long-term strategy,” said Steve Diverio of Southfield Mezzanine, an investment firm that holds a stake in Togo’s, in a statement. “His steady vision and deep understanding of our brand make him the ideal person to guide Togo’s through its next chapter of innovation and growth.”

Lunde plans to focus on several key priorities, including enhancing the chain’s loyalty programs, expanding digital and delivery capabilities and driving continued franchise growth.

The company said he will be collaborating with the leadership team and franchisees to ensure Togo’s evolves with consumer preferences, and new menu items are coming, as the brand moves into new markets.

“Togo’s is a brand I’m proud to serve, and I am honored to resume leading as we build on our strong foundation to meet the needs of our guests and franchise partners,” Lunde said in a statement. “Our focus is on bringing fresh ideas to the table, from creative menu innovation to stronger digital engagement and smart growth strategies. Together, we’ll ensure Togo’s continues to stand out as a brand that delivers quality, value and memorable experiences.”

Togo’s has 170 units open or under development. The chain ended 2024 with 147 units, a decline of nearly 6% from the prior year. Sales were down nearly 5% to $109 million, according to the Top 500 Restaurant Chain ranking by Restaurant Business sister brand Technomic.
