Union Square Hospitality Group named Marissa Freeman as chief marketing officer for the multi-concept group, the company announced Friday.

Most recently, Freeman was chief brand officer at Hewlett Packard Enterprises. Before that, she held executive positions at several ad agencies. She also served as SVP of brand strategy for Time Warner Cable.

“As we once again welcome guests to our dining rooms, meet new staff members, and even introduce some new restaurants into the fold, clearly communicating and sharing our purpose and brand story is more important than ever to our success,” USHG Founder and CEO Danny Meyer said in a statement. “Marissa brings her entrepreneurial spirit, deep-rooted marketing expertise, and a true passion for extending Enlightened Hospitality.”

USHG temporarily closed all 19 of its New York City restaurants during the pandemic’s earliest days. After reopening for several months, it closed its restaurants again in November, citing rising infection rates in the city.

Just before the pandemic, in February 2020, USHG hired its first CMO: Rani Yadav. Yadav joined the company after several years with meal kit brand Blue Apron. She now works in product marketing for tech company Stripe, according to her LinkedIn.
